Fire damages home in Jim Thorpe
Firefighters quickly knocked down an early-morning blaze Thursday in Jim Thorpe Borough.
Jim Thorpe Fire Chief Vince Yaich said crews responded to a single-family residence in the 300 block of Oak Street just before 2 a.m. for the report of smoke in the home.
“One resident was home and she woke up after smelling the smoke, Yaich said. “The smoke was coming up through the steps leading to the upstairs. She got her cats and was able to get out.”
Though the call was initially for smoke, crews found and knocked down a fire on the exterior of the home.
Yaich said there was minor damage to the exterior of the home where the fire was and also damage on the inside where crews opened up the walls.
The cause of the fire has been ruled undetermined.
“We had the state fire marshal in to look at it,” Yaich said. “He was there for around two hours. With the majority of the fire being on the exterior, he couldn’t really determine where it started, but he doesn’t suspect any foul play.”
