Lehighton state police investigate DUIs

Lehighton state police reported on the following traffic incidents:

• Ricky Strausser, 27, Kunkletown, is facing charges of driving under the influence of a controlled substance after state police were called to the Shell Gas Station, 1069 Scenic Drive, Polk Township, at 8:30 p.m. Aug. 20. Strausser was found unresponsive in a Toyota Tacoma and had his foot on the brake with the vehicle still running. He was requested to submit to a chemical test of the blood, the result of which are pending.

• Charges of driving under the influence of alcohol and a controlled substance are pending against Bouathong Phothong, 38, Lansford, after a one-vehicle crash at 10:19 a.m. Aug. 12 at the intersection of Mahoning Mountain Road and Spruce Street in Mahoning Township. State police said they transferred her to St. Luke’s Hospital for a blood test. Charges are pending the toxicology test results.

• A 42-year-old man from Polk Township is facing charges of driving under the influence of alcohol. State police at the Lehighton barracks said he was stopped at 10:45 p.m. Aug. 17 at the intersection of Mill Pond and Interchange roads in Polk Township.

• Robert Barnes, 29, of Kunkletown, is facing charges of driving under the influence after a traffic stop made by state police at 9:03 p.m. Aug. 11 at the intersection of Fireline and Forest Inn roads in Lower Towamensing Township. Police said he was taken into custody and transported for a blood test. The charges will be filed pending the results of laboratory testing.
