Slatington man charged with resisting arrest
A Slatington man with a warrant out for his arrest is in custody after resisting arrest.
Larry Arndt Jr., 53, of the 1200 block of Main Street, faces charges of resisting arrest or other law enforcement.
According to the affidavit of probable cause filed by Sgt. Deron Dorward of the Slatington Borough Police Department:
At 5:27 a.m. Aug. 31, Dorward, along with officers Kevin Torres and Scott Ledo responded to the Sunoco A-plus gas station along Main Street for a wanted person identified as Arndt Jr.
Dorward was aware that there were two warrants for Arndt’s arrest for violating a protection from abuse order.
Dorward, along with Torres and Ledo arrived on scene and observed Arndt seated at a game machine inside the Sunoco A-plus.
Dorward approached Arndt and advised him to stand up and place his hands behind his back because police had a warrant for his arrest.
He refused to stand up and comply with verbal commands, and when Dorward went to take control of Arndt’s left hand, he tensed up and started to become combative toward Dorward, Ledo and Torres.
Ledo deployed his Taser and told Arndt if he did not comply he was going to be tased.
Arndt continued to not comply with verbal commands, and Ledo used his Taser and dry stunned Arndt.
Dorward and Torres were then able to take Arndt into custody.
While escorting Arndt to the patrol vehicle, Arndt continued to yell and curse at Dorward, Torres and Ledo.
While yelling at Dorward, Arndt had sprayed spit onto Dorward’s left arm, as well as Ledo’s face.
Arndt was placed inside the patrol vehicle, transported to police headquarters and placed inside a cell block.
He continued to scream and yell and called Torres a racial expletive several times, while continuing to be combative when police attempted to remove the handcuffs.
Arndt is currently incarcerated in Lehigh County Jail in lieu of $15,000 straight bail.
He is scheduled to have a preliminary hearing at 2 p.m. Friday before District Judge Tom Creighton of Slatington.
