Third Thursday Lecture Series at Stroud Mansion

The Monroe County Historical Association will host a free program open to the public. Local historian Jim Werkheiser will give his presentation, “Monroe County Memorializes its World War I Doughboys” as part of the Third Thursday Lecture Series at 7 p.m. Sept. 20 at the Stroud Mansion, 900 Main St. in Stroudsburg.
This year, the United States celebrates the 100th anniversary of the signing of the Armistice, ending World War I in November 1918.
Locally, citizens will also honor the more than 1,000 Monroe County men who enlisted or were drafted into the Armed Forces and in particular, those who died while serving.
To Monroe County’s credit, four memorials were erected between 1919 and 1932 in various locations around the county. This presentation will focus on these four memorials.
The Third Thursday Lecture Series is free, but reservations are required due to limited space.
Light refreshments will be served. The presentation will be held on the second floor of the Stroud Mansion, which is not handicap-accessible.
