Tamaqua news for Sept. 12, 2018

Tamaqua Mayor Nathan Gerace has announced that Tamaqua’s trick or treat night will be held on Saturday, Oct. 27. Hours will be from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m.

Anyone wishing to have the ghouls and goblins entertain them should make sure their porch light is turned on.

Gerace says he selected the Saturday before Halloween after speaking with several teachers, parents and children. All preferred the weekend to a school night.

Motorists are reminded to drive extra carefully as the streets will be filled with youngsters.

Chamber concerts

The Tamaqua Area Chamber of Commerce has extended dates for its 12th Annual Summer Concert Series, rescheduling some acts that were rained out earlier this summer. The next event will be this Thursday, featuring Vinyl Persuasion.

The concerts are held from 6:30 to 8 p.m. on the platform at the Tamaqua Train Station. All events are weather permitting.

The entertainment will continue on Sept. 20 with It Takes Two, top 40s and classic good-time oldies; and Sept. 27, Buddy Musselman, classic rock and outlaw country.

TEPTO meeting

The Tamaqua Elementary Parent Teacher Organization will hold its first meeting of the 2018-19 school year on Sept. 18. The meeting will be held in the school library, beginning at 6:30 p.m.

This is a change in meeting date.

Chamber breakfast

The Tamaqua Area Chamber of Commerce will host a new session of its continuing breakfast seminar series on Sept. 19. Breakfast and the seminar will be held at the Tamaqua Elks, 201 W. Broad St., beginning at 9:30 a.m.

The topic will center on cyber security and is titled “Russians and Routers: What the FBI Really Said.”

Chamber members who register by Sept. 12 will be able to attend for free.

The seminar is open at noon members, for a small fee.

Bloodmobile

An American Red Cross Bloodmobile will visit St. John United Church of Christ, Pine Street, on Sept. 12. Hours will be from 1 to 6 p.m. Walk-in donors are welcome.

Anyone 17 or older, who weighs at least 110 pounds and is in general good health, is eligible to become a blood donor.

Bethany EC

The Rev. Kevin Roberts will officiate at the 8 and 10:30 a.m. worship services this Sunday in Bethany Evangelical Congregational Church. Sunday school classes meet at 9:15 a.m.

Also on Sunday, the monthly service at the Hometown Nursing Center will be held at 2:30 p.m.

Activities for next week include: Monday, Celebrate Recovery women’s training at 5 p.m., Celebrate Recovery men’s training at 5:30 p.m., Celebrate Recovery meets at 6:30 p.m.; Wednesday, TYM Remix meets at 6:30 p.m., worship practice is at 8 p.m.; Saturday, corn maze event at 1 p.m., Foothills Farm.

Primitive Methodist

Pastor Rick Clemson will officiate at the 10:45 a.m. worship service on Sunday in American Primitive Methodist Church. Sunday school classes are held at 9:30 a.m.

Bible study sessions are held at 6:30 p.m. on Tuesdays. Hope in the Mountains NFG are held from 6:30 to 8 p.m. on Thursdays.

A church luncheon will be held following the 10:45 a.m. service on Sept. 23. Participants are reminded to bring a covered dish to share.
