Two Wilkes-Barre residents were arrested on felony and misdemeanor charges during a checkpoint conducted on Sept. 7 on Route 61 in Schuylkill County by state police at the Frackville barracks.

Amanda VanWhy, 22, was charged with two counts of receiving stolen property while Olmedo Cuello, 21, was arrested on two counts of receiving stolen property and firearms not to be carried without a license.

They were arraigned before Magisterial District Justice James Ferrier and committed to the Schuylkill County Prison, Pottsville, in lieu of $25,000 straight bail each.

Police said they were occupants of a vehicle that entered the checkpoint in Frackville at 11 p.m. Police said the Toyota Yaris had an expired inspection sticker on it, prompting police to order the driver to pull to the side of the road. Further investigation revealed the driver was not licensed and a PennDOT query showed the registration plate was reported stolen by the Harrisburg Police Department and the vehicle was reported stolen by the Hanover Township Police Department.

Police took the two into custody and later found the firearm in Cuello’s possession.
