Kidder resident raises concerns over duplex used as rental property

Published September 24. 2018 12:29PM

Concerns were raised about a township property at the Kidder supervisors meeting Thursday.

Resident Matthew Phillips addressed the board during public comment. Phillips lives in Lake Harmony and has ongoing concerns with the duplex located at 188-190 South Lake Drive.

Phillips said that the property belongs to L.J. Holdings LLC, and that a variance was required to construct the duplex.

“There was testimony taken for the variance where the owners said that the building would not be used as rental property, that it would only be used as a family residence,” Phillips told the board. “The property is listed online as Eagles Nest Lodge and it sleeps up to 44 people.”

Phillips said that he has provided proof to the township that the property is being used as a rental property.

Chairman Thomas Bradley verified with Township Manager Lisa Klem that each duplex has an occupancy certification for up to 10 people.

Bradley said that the township will look into the claims.

A search online of Eagles Nest Lodge in Lake Harmony turned up the property. The property is listed on VRBO as having 14 bedrooms, 10 full and two half bathrooms and being able to accommodate 40 people. The average nightly rental price is $2,018 and requires a two-night minimum.
