Lehighton man gets jail time for DUI
A Lehighton man was sentenced to a prison term on a driving under the influence charge on Friday in the county court.
Judge Steven R. Serfass sentenced Jesse Roger Balliet, 30, to serve 30 days in the county prison followed by 59 months in the county’s Intermediate Punishment Program with the first 60 days on electronic monitoring. He previously pleaded to the DUI count.
Balliet was arrested on Dec. 22, 2017, at Route 209 and Bridge Street by Lehighton police. A test revealed the presence of a controlled substance.
On a charge of possession of drug paraphernalia he was placed on probation for a year, concurrent with the DUI charge. He was also ordered to pay a fine of $1,500, license suspended for 18 months, render 150 hours of community service, pay court costs of about $1,000 and pay a $50 per month supervision fee while on parole or probation.
He will begin the jail term at 4 p.m. on Sept. 28.
