Northern Lehigh School Board — curriculum

Northern Lehigh School Board, on a 7-0 vote Monday, with Directors Kristie Wilk and Robert Keegan Jr. absent, took the following action:

Curriculum and instruction

• Approved the comprehensive plan from July 1, 2019, to June 30, 2022.

• Approved the Northern Lehigh School District Goals for the 2018-19 school year.

• Authorized administration to enter into an agreement with Apple Tree Educational Associates LLC to provide bilingual school psychologist services to assist the Special Education Department with bilingual assessments and student evaluations. The rate of pay will be $1,800 per student evaluation.

• Authorized Superintendent Matthew J. Link to execute a letter of agreement for the 2018-19 academic year with the Center for Humanistic Change Inc. to provide Student Assistance Program Liaison services. The Student Assistance Teams in the district will use these services.

• Authorized proper officials to execute an affiliation agreement between Northern Lehigh School District and Kutztown University for a teacher preparation program which allows students at Kutztown University to student teach in the district in order for them to complete their practicum hours needed for graduation.

• Approved the addendum to the Pediatric Therapeutic Services Agreement to provide bilingual speech services at a rate of $86 per hour, on an as-needed basis, for the 2018-19 school year.

Financial

• Approved the 2018-19 district salary schedule.

• Approved to release the $5,000 donation to the Slatington Public Library that is budgeted in the 2018-19 school year.

• Approved the addendum to the agreement with Portnoff Law Associates Ltd. to be the delinquent real estate tax collector for the 2018 tax year.

• Approved the appointment of Statewide Tax Recovery as the delinquent per capita tax collector for the 2018 tax year.

Legal

• On a 6-1 vote, with Director David Roberts opposed, approved the Findings of Fact and Conclusion of Law and recommendation of the Hearing Committee held at 6:15 p.m. on Oct. 1 to expel a student. After Monday’s school board meeting, Roberts said he voted against the measure because, “I feel like we were too strict.”

• Approved expulsion hearing waivers for three students in which the students and guardians have agreed to waive their right to a formal expulsion hearing in front of the school board, and have also agreed to disciplinary action outlined in the waiver.
