Carbon County court — DUI

Published October 16. 2018 12:23PM

Two defendants in pending driving under the influence cases entered guilty pleas on Monday in Carbon County court.

Judge Joseph J. Matika accepted the pleas from the following:

Angel Manuel Silva, 21, of Hazleton, was arrested on Sept. 2, 2017, by state police at Hazleton along Interstate 80 in East Side Borough. A test showed the presence of a controlled substance.

Sentencing was deferred so Silver can obtain a comprehensive drug and alcohol evaluation.

John David Della-Vecchio, 59, of Palmerton, was arrested on March 16 by state police at Lehighton along Forest Inn Road in Lower Towamensing Township. A test revealed a 0.10 BAC.

Sentencing was deferred so he can apply for placement in the county’s Intermediate Punishment Program — house arrest.

Sentenced

Robert A. Gonzalez, 39, of Lansford, was sentenced to serve five days to six months in prison on a DUI count and 30 to 60 days on a charge of driving under suspension — DUI related, but must serve the full 60 days. The terms run concurrent. He previously pleaded to the charges. He was also ordered render 25 hours of community service, license suspended for a year and zero tolerance for drug and alcohol use. He was arrested on Jan. 2 at Patterson and Center streets by Lansford police. He refused a test.

He is currently an inmate in the Lehigh County prison on a probation violation charge.
