Tamaqua seniors

The Tamaqua Senior Citizens met Oct. 11 at the Tamaqua YMCA with 47 members and two guests, Rita Thompson and Robert Werley, in attendance. President Melody Weicker opened the meeting with the reading of “Autumn Tapestries.”

The meeting included an election of officers. Weicker will remain as president, with Nancy Gerber as vice president, Norma Lee Burke as treasurer and Ruthann Feane as secretary.

Mary Herbig was added to the sick list. A moment of silence was held in memory of Norma Baker. Returning member Helen Trimmel and new member Janet Solomon were given warm welcomes.

The meetings for Oct. 25 and Nov. 8 have been canceled. September and October birthdays will be celebrated at the Oct. 18 meeting.

Refreshments were served.

The group is open to anyone 55 or older, meeting at 1 p.m. every Thursday at the YMCA.

Trick or treat

Tamaqua Mayor Nathan Gerace has announced that Tamaqua’s trick or treat night will be held on Oct. 27. Hours will be from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m.

Anyone wishing to have the ghouls and goblins entertain them should make sure their porch light is turned on.

Gerace says he selected the Saturday before Halloween after speaking with several teachers, parents and children. All preferred the weekend to a school night.

Motorists are reminded to drive extra carefully as the streets will be filled with youngsters.
