Alum gives $25M to Wharton School for entrepreneur building

PHILADELPHIA (AP) — A Wharton School of business graduate is giving $25 million to the school at The University of Pennsylvania to build a hall focusing on entrepreneurs.

Wharton announced Thursday that Nicolai Tangen’s gift would also establish an international scholarship fund.

Tangen is the founder of London-based investment partnership AKO Capital. He graduated from the Philadelphia school in 1992.

Tangen Hall, which will be nearly 70,000 square feet, should be completed in 2020.

Wharton Dean Geoffrey Garrett calls Tangen Hall “a game-changing facility for innovation, entrepreneurship, and technology.”

It will feature, among other things, storefront retail space for student ventures, meeting and collaboration spaces and a Maker Lab operated by Penn’s School of Engineering and Applied Science that will feature 3D printers and laser cutters.
