A look back: Oct. 30, 1976
Instructional costs (teacher pay, textbooks, etc.) gobbled up more than half of the overall day-to-day cost of running Carbon County’s public schools during the 1974-75 school year, the state Department of Education said today.
While overall expenditures for operations and maintenance of the schools amounted to $10,428,237 for the year, $6,114,417 went into instructional costs alone.
Teacher pay proved to be the largest single item at $4,863,411 while $287,910 was spent on teaching supplies, $276,726 went to principals’ pay and $223,261 was spent on noninstructional personnel. Rounding out the top five expenditures was the $147,248 cost for librarians in the schools.
