A look back: Oct. 31, 1977

The Panther Valley High School Band captured second place in the Alsatia Mummer’s Parade held Saturday night in Hagerstown, Maryland. The 105-member unit, directed by William Mitchell Jr., will receive a cash award for its performance, which was judged outstanding on the basis of its music, marching and general appearance.

Mitchell’s Marchers competed in the Junior-Senior Band category with 70 other high school bands that participated in the parade, which is staged annually by the Alsatia Club of Hagerstown. The trip was sponsored by the Panther Band Boosters Association.
