More charges filed against Christy
More charges have been filed against Shawn Christy, who was captured in September in Ohio after being on the run for three months on charges of threatening the president.
Christy, 27, of McAdoo, faces theft and criminal trespass charges stemming from his time on the run.
According to the affidavit of probable cause filed by state trooper Joseph Maletz III:
At 10:29 p.m. July 8, state police at Hazleton were contacted by agents from the U.S. Customs and Border Protection regarding a vehicle that was located in Trout River, New York. The vehicle was located in a ditch off the roadway about 100 yards from the United States/Canada border.
The vehicle was returned to Hazleton Oil & Environmental Inc. of 300 Tamaqua St., Banks Township.
Video surveillance footage from Hazleton Oil showed a man entered building No. 1 at the business at 3:35 a.m.
A member of management identified the man as Christy, who was a former employee of the business.
The video surveillance shows Christy leaving building No. 1, taking food from the pantry.
Christy is observed on video surveillance entering the stolen vehicle and driving away.
Packer Township
Christy also faces separate charges on burglary, criminal trespass, criminal attempt — theft by unlawful taking, and criminal mischief.
According to an affidavit of probable cause filed by trooper Richard Mrak of the Pennsylvania State Police:
At 11 p.m. Aug. 23, members of the Pennsylvania State Police — Hazleton Patrol unit arrived at Quakake Road, Packer Township, for a report of a burglary in progress, and were joined by members of the United States Marshals Office a short time later.
Mrak interviewed the victim at the scene, who said he was sleeping when he heard the door to the back bedroom open at 9:45 p.m. on Aug. 23.
The victim said he grabbed his .22 rifle and went into his kitchen toward the back of the residence and yelled, “You come out or I’m coming in!”
The victim said a man, identified as Christy, emerged from the back bedroom and walked into the hallway toward him with his hands up.
The resident said he was standing about 10 to 12 feet from Christy at the time, and that Christy did not have any weapons visible.
He said Christy was wearing an olive green utility drab, blue jeans, and a red hat, and that he appeared to be mid to late 20s with a bushy beard.
The victim said that Christy responded to his commands by saying, “I’m homeless and I’m starving. Don’t shoot.”
The victim said that Christy spoke with a slight lisp and “drug his words out.” He directed Christy to get out of his residence, and he ran out through the main entrance.
The resident said he went to the back bedroom and found several bags of clothing items rummaged through, as well as the contents of the closet being disturbed and strewn around the room.
He also discovered his white Frigidaire air conditioning unit had been removed from the window on the western side of the residence and dropped onto the ground.
Skipper Dippers
At 10:20 a.m. Aug. 24, Rush Township Police Department and U.S. Marshals said Christy entered Skipper Dippers Restaurant without permission by removing an air conditioning unit from out of a side window in order to obtain food and other items.
Surveillance video and photos of the incident show Christy wearing the same olive green utility drab, blue jeans, and red hat that he was wearing during the burglary.
Skipper Dippers is about 2.8 miles from the first incident, located at the intersection of Quakake Road and Route 309.
Banks Township
Christy also faces separate charges of theft by unlawful taking or disposition, criminal trespass; and criminal mischief.
According to the affidavit of probable cause filed by trooper Casey Lewis of the Pennsylvania State Police Troop N-Hazleton:
On Sept. 14, Lewis was dispatched to Haulmark Industries at 6 Banks Ave., Banks Township, for a report of a burglary that occurred the evening before.
A company representative said an unknown man wearing dark clothes and a black backpack entered the administrative building of Haulmark Industries through an unlocked office window.
While inside, the person removed a $20 bill and a black knit cap. The suspect entered the main building of Haulmark Industries through an unlocked door.
While inside the main building, he used an unknown object to smash the glass of a vending machine and subsequently removed several candy bars from the machine. None of the stolen items were recovered.
Additionally, the Facebook page of Christy was logged into and a post was made while he was inside Haulmark Industries.
Christy is scheduled to appear for a preliminary hearing on those charges at 10 a.m. Dec. 5 before District Judge Joseph Homanko of Weatherly.
Christy remains committed in Lackawanna County Prison on the federal charges.
