November 2, 1996 — Northwestern’s Bruce Kite runs a 16:29.71 on Bucknell University’s 3.1-mile course to earn a medal at the PIAA cross country championships. The senior finishes in 13th place in the Class 2A competition. Northern Lehigh’s Scott Pomicter completes the course in 17:12.75 to place 39th. Other area boys to compete at states include Palmerton’s Jeff Dobias, Panther Valley’s Brian Williams, and Jim Thorpe’s Rob Thomas. The top area girl is Tamaqua’s Brenda Lazur, who places 51st in a time of 20:38.40. Panther Valley’s Lacey Gonzalez ends 54th in 20:40.73. Other TN runners include Palmerton’s Amanda Samok and Northwestern’s Samantha Wechsler.
