Electronic recycling

Tamaqua Borough has a new electronic recycling program for residents in response to new regulations that ban placing those items out for regular trash collection. There are disposal fees attached to the program and a limit of three items per household per month. The disposal fees are $5 for one item, $8 for two items and $10 for three items.

Electronic devices that will be accepted include desktop computers, laptops, monitors, televisions and computer peripherals such as keyboards, printers, mouse or other devices connected to a computer.

This is a drop-off program, so items must be transported to the drop-off site by first contacting someone at borough hall.

Proof of residency will be required.

Meet the Raiders

The Tamaqua Area School District’s annual winter “Meet the Raiders night” will be held on Nov. 28 in the Tamaqua Athletic Center. The event will begin at 7 p.m.

The public is welcome to attend this free event which will feature the girls and boys basketball teams, the wrestling team, swim team and cheerleaders. The Blue Raider Pep Band will also be in attendance.

Thanksgiving help

The Tamaqua Salvation Army will host a free Thanksgiving Day dinner from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Nov. 22. Meals will also be delivered to shut-ins who register at least one week in advance by calling 570-668-0410.

Thanksgiving food baskets will be distributed between noon and 6 p.m. on Nov. 20 for those families who preregistered.

Christmas food baskets, Toys for Tots and Angel Tree distribution will be held from noon to 6 p.m. on Dec. 20.

The Salvation Army is located at 105 W. Broad St., Tamaqua.

St. Peter’s W. Penn

The Rev. Robert Reier will officiate at the 9 a.m. worship service this Thankoffering Sunday in St. Peter’s Church in West Penn. Sunday school classes meet at 10:15 a.m.

Also on Sunday, the junior choir will rehearse at 11 a.m., Girl Scouts will meet at 6 p.m. and the church board will meet at 6:30 p.m.

Next week’s activities include: Tuesday, prayer group meets at 5 p.m., women’s group meets at 6:30 p.m.; Wednesday, Thanksgiving Eve service at 7 p.m.

Calvary Lewistown

The Rev. Susan Moore will officiate at the 10:25 a.m. worship service this Sunday in Calvary Evangelical Methodist Church in the Lewistown Valley. The service will include special music.

Also on Sunday, Sunday school classes meet at 9:15 a.m. and the annual Harvest and Thanksgiving service will be held at 6:30 p.m.

A Thanksgiving service will be held at 8:30 a.m. on Nov. 22 at Zion Church of the Lewistown Valley.

St. John Lutheran

The Rev. Phyllis Wolford officiates at the 9:15 a.m. Sunday services in St. John’s Lutheran Church.

Also on Sunday, the bell choir will rehearse at 8 a.m. and a congregational meeting will be held following the worship service.

Zion Lewistown

Pastor Jim Williams will officiate at the 10:30 a.m. service this Sunday at Zion Church, Lewistown Valley. Sunday school is scheduled for 9:15 a.m.

Set up for candy making will be at 9 a.m. Nov. 17 in the social hall, with candy made from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. and 5 to 8 p.m. on Nov. 19 and 20.

The Thanksgiving Day service will be celebrated at 8 a.m. on Nov. 22.
