A look back: Nov. 15, 1972
Taking the advice of his physician, Lehighton Fire Chief Corvin Solt has decided to step down from his position at the end of the year.
Solt was appointed fire chief in 1947 and has been renamed to the post every year since.
Solt was the founder of the Carbon County Fire School, which began in 1954. He served as co-director of the school for a number of years, helping it to achieve the success it has attained. Each year, the school attracts about 150 firemen from Carbon and nearby communities.
Solt has also served as an instructor at the state fire school in Lewisburg, where he taught thousands of volunteer firefighters in advanced firefighting techniques.
