A look back: Nov. 23, 1972
One of the three largest restaurants in Tamaqua will close its doors this evening. The Royal Restaurant, 208 E. Broad St., has been purchased by the North Central Development Corporation, which plans to construct a 14-story high-rise apartment complex with 145 units in the area.
Mickey Cappos and his wife, Jeanette, have operated the business since its opening on Feb. 18, 1963. Previously, they operated the Rialto Restaurant, Lansford, and owned and operated the Famous Lunch, Tamaqua.
Six restaurants remain in Tamaqua, including Tamaqua’s oldest host, Taylor’s, the newly reopened Five Points, Palma Maria, Depps, Rita’s Lunch and the Texas Lunch.
