Lost hunter rescued in Penn Forest after brief search
Search crews located a missing hunter in Penn Forest Township Monday night.
The 60-year-old hunter was reported missing by his companions on Monday in Penn Forest Township. The man was last seen in the area of the cellphone tower on game lands located between Mount Pocahontas and Towamensing Trails.
According to Penn Forest Township Volunteer Fire Co. No. 2 Chief David Vukovic, a call was put out for assistance from Penn Forest Fire Company No. 1 and Albrightsville Fire Company, as well as Lehighton Ambulance.
The Pennsylvania State Police from Fern Ridge and Carbon County EMA coordinator Mark Nalesnik also responded.
“It took us about an hour to an hour and a half to get the manpower in place and plan,” Vukovic said. “Using the information that we had, we were able to locate the victim within a half-hour.”
Vukovic said that the hunter had suffered a knee injury that made it difficult for him to move.
“All in all, he had minor injuries,” Vukovic said. “We were glad that it wasn’t more serious.”
The hunter was rescued using a Stokes basket and an all-terrain vehicle. He was transported to a local hospital by Lehighton Ambulance. His identity was not released.
