West Penn commends road crew for snow removal
Despite the flak they took on social media for their recent snow removal, West Penn Township officials commended the job done by the township’s road crew.
Supervisors’ Chairman Tony Prudenti recently addressed snow removal complaints that he said flooded Facebook concerning the road crew’s snow removal from the area’s first storm.
“I’d like to thank our road crew,” Prudenti said. “They really did a terrific job. It’s only going to get better.”
Supervisor Tim Houser concurred.
“I think the road crew did a really good job,” Houser said.
Houser noted that the township right of way is 33 feet, 16½ feet from the center of the road.
He said that if a resident’s mailbox or reflector are in the township’s right of way, the township is not responsible.
Houser said if a resident’s mailbox or reflector is off the township’s right of way, then it will take responsibility.
Pothole concerns
Resident Ted Rosen lauded the township for the recent removal of a tree that was hanging on power lines along Spring Road.
West Penn Township Supervisor Ted Bogosh cut down the tree, which had been leaning on power lines, and was only held up by an oak tree on the other side of the road.
However, Rosen noted there are several really big potholes there.
Houser said the board was aware.
“We realize the problem with the potholes,” Houser said. “The weather has really handcuffed our road crew.”
Monitor smoke detectors
Bogosh recommended that residents look to change their batteries in their smoke detectors.
He said this time of year is a good time to do so.
