Bethany EC Church

Bethany EC Church, 222 North St. holds Sunday worship with the Rev. Jeff Stansbury, pastor. Thank Offering speaker: Joe Toy.

Sunday school is at 9:30 a.m. with classes for all ages, including adult Bible study class, morning worship at 10:45 a.m., preschool nursery available and Jr. Church provided for children in kindergarten through sixth grade.

Tuesday: Women’s Bible study, 10 a.m. at Blocker’s residence.

Wednesday: Prayer meeting, prayer devotional and singing, 7-8 p.m.

Thursday: Men’s Bible study at McDonald’s, 5:15 a.m.; choir practice, 7 p.m.

Saturday: 10 a.m. Dec. 1, decorating Bethany’s “Tree in the Park.”

In need of children’s winter clothing sizes 4-14 for St. Peter’s Resource Center. Drop at side door to Bethany EC on Friday from 10 a.m. to noon.

Crossroads Community Church

Crossroads Community Church, 580 Coal St., holds Sunday worship service with Pastor Jim Banks. It is a place for a fresh start with God.

Adult Sunday school at 9:30 a.m.; contemporary worship service at 10:30 a.m. with nursery available; children’s Sunday school at 11 a.m.; fellowship following service.

Tuesday: Adult Bible study at 6:30 p.m., currently studying the book of Ephesians.

Communion: Last Sunday of the month.

Grief Support: meets 6:30 to 8 p.m. every Monday, Dec. 3, 10 and 17. Open to the public.

PAC (Parents with Autistic Children): meets at 7 p.m. Dec. 5. Open to the public

Advent Worship: 6:30 p.m. Dec. 5, soup and service. We will meet in our fellowship hall and start with a meal of bread, soup and salad. Our worship will feature videos and discussion on the familiar hymn “Silent Night.”

Youth Group event: 11:30 a.m. to 2 p.m. Dec. 9, at the church for Christmas painting. Please join us for a family fun painting event to support our youth group. Adult price $35 (Angels); child price (12 and under) $15 (snowmen). RSVP by Dec. 3. Also the youth group will be meeting at the Lehighton Borough Park Annex building from 6 to 8 p.m. to go Christmas caroling.

JOY (Just Older Youth): will hold a cookie swap (four dozen) and a pot luck at 11 a.m. on Dec. 11. Sign-up sheets for cookie swap can be found on church bulletin boards. Any questions, call 570-386-4184.

Advent Worship: 6:30 p.m. Dec. 12. Soup and service in the fellowship hall.

Sunday school Christmas Pageant: 6 p.m. Dec. 16, The pageant will feature the story of the birth of Jesus from the moment when the expecting Mary visits her cousin Elizabeth, to that Nativity night with shepherds and angels, to the coming of the wise men bearing gifts.

Prayer Shawl Meeting: 1-3 p.m. Dec. 18. Anyone is invited who would like to get together to work on projects. The meetings are also for those who would like information on making the shawls. We are currently looking for people to crochet or knit lap robes and shawls. The yarn is provided and can be picked up at the church.

Trinity highlights

Sunday worship with Holy Communion at Trinity Lutheran Church, 175 S. Third St., begins at 9:30 a.m. Gluten-free wafers are available for those with allergy issues. The Rev. Nancy Moore presides. Vicar Richard Bergen assists. Coffeehouse fellowship follows.

First Saturday worship with Holy Communion is 5 p.m. Dec. 1. First Tuesday quiet communion is at 10 a.m. Dec. 4.

Sunday church school for students ages 3 through sixth grade begins at 10:45 a.m. Rehearsals are underway for the Sunday school’s Christmas program to be presented Dec. 9 during the worship time.

Volunteers are welcome at 6 p.m. Dec. 7 for Christmas tree decorating.

“Breaking Bread” youth group for students in grades seven-12 will meet in the youth room at 5 p.m. Sunday for supper before going to the park for the community tree lighting. The youth group meets from 5 to 7 p.m. Dec. 9 for supper, Bible study and discussion. Vicar Bergen is the youth group adviser.

Appointments in December are available for individuals to arrange a baptismal date and/or congregational membership. Call the church office at 610-377-4303 during business hours.
