High school concert

The Tamaqua Senior High School Music Department will present its annual holiday music program on Dec. 6 in the Tamaqua Area Auditorium. The concert will feature the best in holiday selections presented by students in the Concert Choir, Jazz Chorale, Sr. High Wind Ensemble, and the “Raider” Concert Band.

The program will conclude with the audience joining the band and choir for a festive singalong.

Accompanists are Olivia Lattanzi and Maura Walker.

The “Raider” Band and Senior High Wind Ensemble are under the direction of Mark E. Beltz, and the Concert Choir and Jazz Chorale are under the direction of John D. Buglio.

Doors to the auditorium will open at 6:45 p.m., with the concert set to start at 7:30 p.m.

Library news

The Tamaqua Public Library’s young adult program meets the third Monday of each month. The next session will be at 6 p.m. on Dec. 17, when the discussion will center on the BBC television series “Doctor Who.” In addition to the discussion, there will be games and free pizza.

The library’s annual Christmas book sale is currently underway.

Diaper depot

Families with infants and toddlers living within the Tamaqua Area School District are the focus of a new family ministry at Zion Lutheran Church.

Zion’s will be distributing free diapers on the third Saturday of each month, by appointment only. Proof of residency, but not financial status, photo identification and preregistration are required. Registrations are now being accepted for the Nov. 17 distribution date.

Each 50-pack bundle of diapers will also come with a pack of wipes. Participants will be provided one bundle of diapers per child, per month, subject to availability.

Bethany EC

The Rev. Kevin Roberts will officiate at the 8 and 10:30 a.m. worship services this Sunday in Bethany Evangelical Congregational Church. Sunday school classes meet at 9:15 a.m.

Also on Sunday, the operations commission will meet at 11:45 a.m. and rehearsal for the children’s music special will be at 11:45 a.m.

Activities for the next week include: Monday, Celebrate Recovery women’s training at 5 p.m., Celebrate Recovery men’s training at 5:15 p.m., Celebrate Recovery meets at 6:30 p.m.; Wednesday, TYM Remix meets at 6:30 p.m., GriefShare meets at 7 p.m., worship practice is at 8 p.m.

Zion Lewistown

Pastor Jim Williams will officiate at the 10:30 a.m. service this Sunday in Zion Church, Lewistown Valley. The service will include Holy Communion. Sunday school classes will meet at 9:15 a.m.

Upcoming events include: Dec. 6, guild will meet at 6:30 p.m.; Dec. 7, candy clean up.

St. Peter’s West Penn

The Rev. William Seaman will officiate at the 9 a.m. worship service this Sunday in St. Peter’s Church in West Penn. The service will include Holy Communion.

Sunday school classes meet at 10:15 a.m.

Also on Sunday, the junior choir will rehearse at 11 a.m., women’s group Christmas party will be held at noon, Girl Scouts will meet at 6 p.m.

Next week’s activities include: Tuesday, prayer group meets at 5 p.m., worship and music committee meets at 6 p.m.; Wednesday, Confirmation class meets at 5 p.m.; Thursday, senior choir rehearses at 7:30 p.m.
