Caravan needs to be towed after colliding with deer
A 1997 Dodge Caravan driven by a Tamaqua man needed to be towed from the scene after it was struck by a deer at 11:08 a.m. Dec. 7 on Route 309, just north of Mountain Road, in Lynn Township.
State police at the Fogelsville barracks said Terry Kunkle, 56, was driving the vehicle northbound when its front left-side bumper area and windshield were struck by a deer that emerged from a wooded area off the southbound shoulder of the road. Police said the deer rolled over the roof of the van before striking and shattering the rear window. The van came to a controlled stop on the right shoulder of Route 309.
Kunkle was not injured.
Police said he wanted to drive the vehicle back to his residence, however, the officer requested a tow truck remove it from the highway due to the front windshield of the van being cracked.
