Palmerton Borough manager retiring in April
After more than 29 years of service, Rodger Danielson will retire from his position as Palmerton borough manager in April.
The Palmerton Borough Council announced Danielson’s departure during a council meeting Thursday.
A committee consisting of Council President Terry Costenbader, chairman, and council members William Gallagher and Kris Hoffner, aimed at finding Danielson’s replacement, was also formed Thursday.
When asked what brought him to the decision to end his nearly three-decade career with the Palmerton Borough, Danielson gave a simple answer.
“It’s time,” he said.
“It’s been absolutely a positive experience,” Danielson added. “I’m proud of some of the things that we’ve accomplished. The help of council has always been so steadfast in projects, with paving, when we purchased the water company and took that from a private entity into public. Council support has always been tremendous as we took on new tasks.”
When he first started working for the borough, Danielson said, he really didn’t know what to expect.
“My goal at that time was to see where (the job) took me,” Danielson said.
In hindsight, Danielson couldn’t imagine his life turning out any other way.
“I didn’t feel like I could do anything that I enjoyed more than being here,” Danielson said. “The town has just been good to me, my family — it’s just been a great place to raise our family, and we really never hesitated to stay.”
Danielson’s last day as borough manager is April 26, 2019.
What he most looks forward to is “making (his) time (his) own.”
After retirement, Danielson plans to move back to his hometown in Warren County with his wife to be closer to family.
