A look back: Dec. 24, 1990

Published December 24. 2018 08:21AM

The support and good suggestions of Summit Hill people helped Dave and Roberta Spence branch out in business.

As owners since 1987 of the Apple Tree, a card and novelty shop in the Panther Valley Mini-Mall, the Lansford couple “met a lot of Summit Hill people who are really nice,” which prompted them to expand their business to the hilltop community.

The Spences purchased Vermillion’s Variety Store, 5 E. Ludlow St., Summit Hill, from Joe and Donna Vermillion, and said they plan to operate it “more like a grocery store” that will feature Summit Hill’s newest deli. Design changes are underway under the guidance of Michael Halenar, who handles the building’s maintenance.
