Legion 927
The West End Home Association for the American Legion Post 927 will meet at 7:30 tonight at the Legion post home in Gilbert. The Legion membership will meet at 7:30 p.m. Thursday.
Touch of Home
Operation Touch of Home shipped out 214 boxes to overseas troops for December delivery based on a hugely successful fall drive.
There were so many involved in this local event.
OTOH sweatshirts are in the process of being completed, and will be able to be purchased in due time.
Chili cook-off
Middlecreek Christian Church on Dorshimer Road in Kresgeville is having its annual chili cook-off Saturday. There is no cost to enter. Chili must be made at home.
Those entering the competition are asked to be at church by 5:30 p.m. for setup.
Attendees will have a chance to vote in the following categories: best aroma, most traditional, hottest chili, most creative and best overall chili.
The snow date is Sunday, following the worship service.
Fellowship Sunday
Salem UCC, Gilbert, will hold its first service of the 2019 calendar at 10 a.m. Sunday. Holy Communion will be part of the service, and a fellowship meeting will take place right after church.
The congregation is looking for new ideas to reach out to the community.
The church has a newly renovated Social Hall and sanctuary for rent. Contact the church office at 610-681-4733 for the price and available dates.
SAL meeting
The Sons of the American Legion will meet at 11 a.m. Sunday at Post 927 in Gilbert.
Church fast
The Pleasant Valley Assembly of God Church, Brodheadsville, will be doing a 21-day fast from Sunday through Jan. 27. In addition, there will be a time of discipleship for the students in seventh through 12th grade every Sunday morning at 11 a.m.

In addition, during the National Week of Prayer the church will be open from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. Monday through Friday for anyone who would like to come to pray.
Korean vets meet
A Korean War Veterans meeting will take place at 2 p.m. Sunday at the Legion Post Home in Gilbert.
Reorganizations
The Chestnuthill Township Board of Supervisors’ reorganizational meeting for 2019 will be at 7 p.m. Monday at the township municipal building on Route 715 in Brodheadsville.
Eldred Township’s Board of Supervisors reorganizational meeting is at 7 p.m. Monday.
Polk Township Board of Supervisors reorganizational meeting is 7 p.m. Monday at the Polk Township Municipal Building in Kresgeville.
Ross Township’s Board of Supervisors reorganizational meeting will be held at the Ross Township Municipal Building, on Anchorage Road, Saylorsburg, at 7 p.m. Monday.
Knit & Crochet
Zion Lutheran’s Knit & Crochet is meeting at the church complex in Brodheadsville at 1 p.m. Tuesday to do its good work. Newcomers are welcome, including those who would like to learn either skill.
Bible study
McMichaels UMC is holding a Bible study based on “The Shack,” beginning this coming Tuesday, and including Jan. 15, 22 and 29 at McMichaels UMC, 104 White Church Road, McMichaels. The class begins at 6 p.m. It is open to all. There is no cost to attend. Anyone with questions can call Pastor Ed at 610-597-1030.
Auxiliary meeting
The Legion Auxiliary is slated to meet at 6 p.m. Jan. 9, at the Post Home in Gilbert.
Blastoff event
The West End Park and is hosting a free activity, making a straw and paper rocket, from 10 a.m. to noon Jan. 12.
Rocketmakers will be able to test their skills and see how far their creation will fly.

Soup sale
Effort UMC is taking orders for homemade ham and bean and/or creamy corn chowder soup through Jan. 13. Pickup is set for Jan. 20.

Blood drives
West End neighbor Jackson Township is hosting an American Red Cross blood drive from 1 to 6 p.m. Jan. 11. On Jan. 25, Eldred Township’s volunteer fire company is hosting one from 1 to 6 p.m. at the Kunkletown Firehouse.
Both blood and Power Red can be given at both places.
The Western Pocono Community Library in Brodheadsville hosts Miller-Keystone blood drives on the first Wednesday of the month, beginning at 7:30 a.m., and on the third Wednesday of the month, beginning at noon. Walks-ins are welcome.
West End fair
The West End Fair in Gilbert will be held from Aug. 18 to Aug. 24 this year. That means work and fun ahead.
Garden Tour
An invitation has been extended by the Monroe County Garden Club to consider adding one’s garden to the Garden Club’s Tour for 2019. It takes place in June this year.
The club uses its proceeds to fund its various community projects, including a scholarship for horticultural students, and a camp scholarship to Conservation Camp.
Monroe County Garden Club is open to anyone interested in gardening.
