Mahoning Township supervisors reorganize for the year

During the meeting on Monday, Mahoning Township Supervisors held their annual reorganization meeting.

All supervisors will retain their positions during 2019. Franklin Ruch was unanimously appointed chairman, while John Wieczorek remains as vice chairman. Thomas Nanovic will once again be the township solicitor. Natalie Haggerty was reappointed secretary-treasurer.

Haggerty was given a 59-cent raise, bringing her hourly rate to $23.50. Township road foreman Nevin Frey also was given a 50-cent raise, bringing his salary to $25.60 per hour. Part-time police salary remains set at $22.50 per hour.

Recreation fees for new subdivisions were raised to $400, an increase of $100. Fee schedules for municipal services including zoning and planning will remain the same.

Supervisor meetings in 2019 will remain the second and fourth Wednesday of each month at 6 p.m. Zoning hearing board meetings are held on the first Tuesday of each month. Planning commission meetings are set for the third Tuesday of each month.

Other appointments made during the meeting include:

• Carl Faust, zoning officer, $500 per month.

• Part-time winter road crew workers, $18 per hour.

• Township clerk Barbara Kester, $15.23 per hour.

• Sewage enforcement officer and stormwater management, Scott Bieber.

• Emergency management coordinator, Debbie Binder.

• Planning commission, supervisor Robert Slaw appointed to four-year term.

• Supervisors unanimously denied appointing anyone to the Carbon County home health care advisory board.
