Fundraising is a frequent activity for students in the CCTI chapters of DECA and HOSA. This year, the two organizations collaborated in a window decorating contest to raise funds for Lauren’s First and Goal, a group that focuses on helping families who are fighting pediatric cancer.

HOSA adviser Michele Dominic and DECA adviser Stephanie Barto helped students plan and implement the event. Students, faculty and staff could purchase a window to decorate for a $5 donation. In all, 29 windows were decorated with a variety of themes, not all of which were holiday related.

Students Kiersten Gursky and Stephanie Struble used the theme “Up” based on the movie of the same name. When asked why they picked that theme, Struble, a 10th-grader, responded, “I’m a health care major and like working with the elderly. In this movie, the hero is an older person. It helps break the stereotype that an older person can’t do anything.”
