Special service
The Week of Prayer for Christian Unity is being celebrated from this Friday until next Friday. It is an interdenominational event.
The Pleasant Valley Ecumenical Network is hosting this year’s Prayer for Christian Unity Worship Service at 10 a.m. Jan. 24 at Our Lady Queen of Peace Roman Catholic church in Gilbert. All are welcome to come and worship together. After the worship service, members of Queen of Peace Church will be preparing a free brunch for all who attend.
The Rev. Suzanne Brooks-Cope, pastor at St. Matthew’s UCC in Kunkletown, will preach.
The Week of Prayer for Christian Unity 2019 worldwide, ecumenical, worship service has been written by Christians in Indonesia.
In case of bad weather, the prayer service for Christian Unity will be moved to 10 a.m. Jan. 31 and the brunch will follow.
Information sessions
Penn State Extension and the Monroe County Conservation District will be holding three information sessions for those interested in learning about becoming a Penn State Master Watershed Steward in 2019. The program is a collaborative effort between Penn State Extension, MCCD, and local conservation groups, and is designed to train people about the basics of water resource stewardship and create an energized group of citizen volunteers.
Stewards receive 40 hours of classroom and field training, and partake in 50 hours of volunteer service.
Two information sessions will be held this month, including: 7 to 8 p.m. Thursday at the Western Pocono Community Library in Brodheadsville; or from 11 a.m. to noon Saturday at the Kettle Creek Environmental Education Center.

PVES fun event
On Friday the Pleasant Valley Elementary School PTO is having a family fun night.
Bingo returns
At 6:30 p.m. Friday, bingo returns to the Chestnuthill Township complex, and also each third Friday after, including Feb. 15, March 15 and April 19.
There will be door prizes, raffles and pull tabs.
It is being hosted by the West End Park and Open Space Commission.
Winter birds
Monroe County Conservation District’s Kettle Creek Environmental Education Center has announced Lilliana’s Nature Discovery Area exploration focus on winter birds. The free program will take place from 9 a.m. to noon Saturday. Learn about different winter birds, make simple bird feeders and listen for their sweet sounds.

LAMA meets
The Latin American Motorcycle Association, Pocono Chapter, will meet at 10 a.m. Sunday at the Legion Post Home in Gilbert.
Exercise time
St. Matthew’s UCC in Kunkletown has a women’s exercise group. They meet every Monday at 1 p.m. About 30 minutes are spent on low-impact aerobics and 20 minutes toning. For more information, call the church at 610-381-2442.
Knit & Crochet
Zion Lutheran’s Knit & Crochet will be gathering on Tuesday to do their good work for others. New members are welcome.
Zion’s schedule
This Sunday Zion Lutheran Church will have its first worship service at 8 a.m.; Sunday school at 9:15 a.m.; and a second worship service at 10:30 a.m. followed by the annual congregational meeting at 11:15 a.m.
WE Republicans
The West End Republican Club will meet at 7 p.m. Tuesday at The Lakeside Restaurant on Hamilton Boulevard in Saylorsburg. Those wishing to eat before the meeting are asked to come one hour earlier, at 6 p.m.
PVEN services
The Pleasant Valley Ecumenical Network is currently in need of blankets for queen and king-size beds, and towels for its Clothing Closet; and medical field scrubs, men’s work boots, and outside Carhart-type jackets for its Dress to Impress Career Closet.
Also needed are girl’s clothing size 3 and under.
Donors can take items to the PVEN located on Route 209 in Sciota.
The monthly average of families served in 2018 is 218, totaling 8,066 people.
