Published January 23. 2019 10:05AM

A man was taken to the hospital Tuesday after a chunk of ice fell from a truck and hit the windshield of the car he was riding in.

State police at Stroudsburg said the incident occurred at 12:20 p.m. when a tractor trailer was traveling on Interstate 80 west when a larger portion of ice fell from the top of the trailer and struck the windshield of a 2012 Toyota Camry operated by Rose Kent, 62, of Liverpool, New York, who was traveling on I-80 east.

The Toyota continued to travel from the scene of the crash to the Gulf gas station at 838 Seven Bridge Road, Smithfield Township, to report the crash.

Rose Kent did not suffer any injuries, but the passenger, Thomas Kent, 65, also of Liverpool, New York, who was sitting on the front right side of the vehicle, suffered injuries as a result of the ice going through the windshield.

Thomas Kent was transported by Bushkill EMS to Pocono Medical Center for further medical evaluation.

Both Rose and Thomas were wearing their seat belts at the time of the incident.

The Toyota sustained windshield damage, and was towed by Schlier’s Towing.

The tractor-trailer has not been identified.

Does anyone know what the procedure is for the truck drivers to remove snow and ice from truck tops? It doesn't seem like an easy or safe task. How would they do it?
