Two people were injured, none seriously, in a one-vehicle crash reported on Jan. 20 at 6:32 a.m. along Mountain View Drive in Polk Township, Monroe County, in which the driver fled the scene.

State police at Lehighton said Paul B. Shaver, 31, of Stroudsburg, was operating a 2001 Ford northbound when the vehicle crossed into the southbound lane and onto the berm where it impacted with a tree, disabling the vehicle. Shaver then fled the scene on foot. Two passengers, identified as Robin R. Baumgartner, 54, of Effort, and Kevin Warner, 54, of Saylorsburg, were injured and taken to the Lehigh Valley Hospital – Pocono Campus, East Stroudsburg, by West End ambulance.

The vehicle was towed from the scene.

In another police report, Shaver was arrested for stealing a vehicle from a residence in the 4100 block of Upper Smith Gap Road in Ross Township. Troopers said he drove it to his home. The vehicle was recovered at Shaver’s residence, where he was taken into custody.

The investigation into that incident is continuing.
