STS free rides
The Schuylkill Transportation System is offering Free Fare Fridays on Feb. 8 and March 8. While registered senior citizens always ride free, fare paying passengers will be able to catch a free ride on any fixed route bus on those days,

Mental health support
The National Alliance on Mental Health is offering free Family to Family classes for residents of Schuylkill County.
The 12-week course is for family members and caregivers, 18 and older, of people living with a mental health condition.
It is an opportunity for families to gain information, insight, understanding and empowerment.
All materials are provided free of charge.
The sessions will begin at 6 p.m. on Feb. 8 and then continue on Thursday evenings through April 25. Classes will be held from 6 to 8 p.m. in Conference Room B at LVH Schuylkill South, Jackson Street in Pottsville.

Girls softball
The West Penn Girls Softball League will hold a fun skills night on Jan. 31 at the West Penn Elementary School.
Open to girls between the ages of 5 and 16, the evening is an opportunity to gain softball skills while having fun through friendly competition.
There is no fee.
Participants should wear sneakers and bring water and a glove. Personal bats are allowed, but there will be several available.
Registration forms and information for the 2019 season will be available.

Rush Ryan seniors
The Rush-Ryan-Delano Senior Citizens met Jan. 22 at the Ryan Township Fire Company with 33 members in attendance. President Robert Neifert conducted the business session after opening the meeting with the invocation “Old Winter.”
Bill Morrison was welcomed back and birthday wishes were extended to Edna Fegley. Larry Bower was added to the sick list. Dues for 2019 are now being accepted.
Upcoming bus trips include: Feb. 18, Mohegan Sun Casino in Wilkes-Barre; April 24, Mount Airy Casino and show; June 5, Knoebel’s Grove; Oct. 23, Penn’s Peak for dinner and a show.
The group is open to anyone 55 or older. The next meeting will be held on Feb. 12, weather permitting.
St. Peter’s Union
Glenn Rarick will be the worship leader at the 9 a.m. worship service this Sunday at St. Peter’s Church, West Penn. Sunday school classes meet at 10:15 a.m.
Also on Sunday, a congregational meeting will be held during the worship service; junior choir will rehearse at 11 a.m. and Girl Scouts will meet at 6 p.m.
Next week’s activities include: Tuesday, prayer group meets at 5 p.m.; Wednesday, Confirmation class meets at 5 p.m.; Thursday, senior choir meets at 7:30 p.m.
