A standoff in Monroe County ended with the arrest of a Blakeslee man.

Pocono Mountain Regional Police said at 8:57 a.m. on Saturday officers were dispatched to 203 Kuhenbeaker Road, Blakeslee, in Tunkhannock Township, for a report of a suicidal person.

On scene officers entered the home and found Edward Clarke, 85, of that address, with a gun to his head and demanding officers leave.

Officers began to negotiate with Clarke to have him disarm, but he threatened the officers and discharged a round from the gun in the home.

Officers evacuated the home and continued with negotiations. At 6:36 p.m. the department’s SWAT unit was able to take Clarke into custody. He was charged with aggravated assault, a felony, and terroristic threats, a misdemeanor.

Pocono police were assisted by the Scranton bomb team, Tunkhannock Township Fire Company and Pocono Mountain Regional EMS unit.

It's sad to read this. Doesn't anyone wonder what lead to this. Lets not work to hard on better reporting the whole story. I dont believe being a Republican has anything to do with why an 85year old man would feel like taking his on life . He could be someones husband, someones father, a veteran .I'm glad it didnt end badly.
