Human trafficking
In November, The Human Trafficking Ministry at Queen of Peace hosted a fair trade sale to raise awareness.
On Friday at 7 p.m., to learn more about this issue, the church will host a short prayer service and reflection on the life of St. Josephine Bakhita, the patron saint of victims of human trafficking.
There will also be a showing of the film, “The Dark Side of Chocolate,” which exposes the role of child labor in the manufacture of chocolate.
Information will also be available on steps that can be taken to put an end to the trade in human beings. And there is still coffee available to buy from the previously held fair trade sale.
Kid’s Game Night
Chestnuthill Park is holding a Kid’s Game Night in two sessions Friday. There will be two sessions: 5:30 p.m. and 7:15 p.m. It is for children ages 4 to 14 years old and will include bingo, cup stacking, ball toss and more.
Preregistration is required.
Special program
Effort UMC will be hosting United Health Care from 10 a.m. to noon on Saturday to provide information on a Special Needs Plan, a no-charge plan for those on Medicare and Medicaid. Those interested in obtaining this information are asked to come to the food pantry area and the representative will be happy to see them.
The Supplemental Food Resource Center food pantry at the church will be open from 10 a.m. to noon this Saturday.
Prayer Shawl
Our Lady Queen of Peace has a Prayer Shawl ministry. That group meets the second Saturday each month, from 10 a.m. to noon, as members and visitors pray and create said Prayer Shawls.
Info session
Kettle Creek Environmental Education Center is the site for information session about the Penn State Extension Master Watershed Steward Program in Monroe County is training a new class in spring of 2019. Such a session has been planned for noon to 1 p.m. Saturday.
The 2019 training program will begin on March 14, and continue on subsequent Thursdays from 6 to 8:30 p.m. through May. The sessions will be held at Kettle Creek Environmental Center with several hands-on Saturday field trips throughout Monroe County.

Comedy Night
American Legion Riders present Comedy Night, featuring Wisecrackers Comedy, at the American Legion Post 927 Main Hall, 646 Fairgrounds Road, Gilbert, Saturday. Dinner is from 5 to 7 p.m. Catering is by Vincents Deli & Catering, Tannersville. Doors open at 5 p.m. One must be 21 or older to attend. The comedy will be presented from 7 to 9 p.m.

Fellowship breakfast
Effort UMC will host a Fellowship breakfast from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. Sunday. Freewill donations will support the church’s capital improvement fund.
Riders meet
The Riders, which meets at the Legion Post Home, will meet at 10:30 a.m. Sunday. It is a time for final officer nominations. The election will be held during the meeting.

Anniversary Mass
Our Lady Queen of Peace Church is celebrating a special Anniversary Mass at 11 a.m. Sunday for all married couples of the parish with a special vow renewal ceremony and special acknowledgments of those celebrating 25, 50 or more years. Members who are celebrating their 25th, 50th or more, are asked to call the office or email churchoffice@qopchurch.org.
Community meal
Our Lady Queen of Peace Church is hosting a CSS supper from 3 to 4 p.m. Sunday.
West End Mission is offering its meal from 4:30 to 5:30 p.m. at OLQP Feb. 14.
Team Night
Pleasant Valley Assembly of God, Brodheadsville, is celebrating Team Night, beginning at 5 p.m. Sunday.
It is for all who serve, or would like to serve, the congregational family in any ministry at the church.
It is to be a fun-filled evening as folks share with one another.

Post 927 Auxiliary will hold its monthly meeting at 6 p.m. Feb. 13.
Valentine’s dinner
The American Legion Post 927 in Gilbert has set aside three evenings for Valentine’s Day dinner: Feb. 14, Feb. 15, Feb. 16.
The first evening, Valentine’s Day, offers two 90-minute seatings, at 5:30 and 7 p.m. The next evening offers three seatings, from 5:30 to 7 p.m., from 7 to 8:30 p.m. and beginning at 8:30 p.m. The final evening, Feb. 16, it is two seatings again, at 5:30 and 7 p.m.

Free throw competition
The Knights of Columbus free throw competition, for boys and girls ages 9 through 14, will be held Feb. 16, at Notre Dame in East Stroudsburg.
Registration is from 10 to 10:30 a.m.
Both Council and District competition will be held this day.
New ministry group
Effort UMC is forming a new group, Christians in Connection. It is a group for adults over 40 and primarily for those living alone, though couples are welcomed, who would like to share in some additional fellowship time by going out for breakfast, lunch or perhaps dinner, go to a movie, meet to play board games or do puzzles, etc.
The inaugural meeting will be held on Feb. 17, after the 11 a.m. service in Wesley Hall. A sign-up sheet is on the Welcome Center.
Appreciation banquet
The Monroe County Conservation District is teaming up with Penn State Extension to co-host the Annual Farmers Appreciation Banquet on Feb. 23, at the Polk Township Fire Hall in Kresgeville. The Polk Township Ladies Auxiliary will be serving a family style meal and musical entertainment will be provided by the McWilliams Brothers.
There will also be other fun activities like games, door prizes, information booths and giveaways. Doors will open at 5:30 p.m. and dinner will be served promptly at 6 p.m.
