Weissport names chief of police

Weissport Borough Council on Monday voted unanimously to promote officer-in-charge Brent Getz to chief of police. Council set the chief’s salary at $18 per hour, retroactive to Jan. 1, 2019. He will work on a part-time basis.

Getz was hired as a part-time officer for Weissport in July 2017.

Also during the meeting, Mayor Paulette Watson provided council with a summary of police activity for 2018.

Weissport police responded to 124 incidents, including the following:

• 22 Abandoned vehicle reports.

• 15 Theft investigations.

• 20 Assists to other police agencies.

• 7 Found property calls.

• 5 Ordinance violations.

• 5 Domestic incidents.

• 11 Harassment cases.

• 10 Traffic citations issued.
