Carbon driver in Luzerne crash

A Carbon County driver was involved in a crash in which the other driver fled the scene.

State police at Hazleton said Jeffrey J. Mehlig, 50, of Weatherly, was driving a 2002 Toyota Echo eastbound along Oakridge Road in Hazle Township, around 7:20 a.m. Friday, when he lost control due to driving too fast for conditions. He attempted to brake, but his vehicle hit the rear of another vehicle. After impact the other driver fled the scene.

Mehlig was not injured. He was cited for driving a vehicle at an unsafe speed.
