Police: Summit Hill man had drug pipe in prison
A Summit Hill man faces drug charges after police found drug paraphernalia on him while in the county jail.
Jonathan L. Stefanick, 33, of East Hazard Street, was charged by Nesquehoning police after Lansford police reported sheriff’s deputies found a glass pipe with methamphetamine residue in it in Stefanick’s coat pocket while being brought into the prison.
Lansford officers had arrested Stefanick on a bench warrant and he was being transported by sheriff’s deputies during a warrant roundup.
Nesquehoning police officer Richard Neikam spoke with corrections officers regarding the incident on Jan. 11. He then spoke with Stefanick, who admitted the pipe was his, but didn’t know it was in his coat pocket.
Stefanick was charged with contraband, possession of a controlled substance as an inmate, unlawful possession of a controlled substance and possession of drug paraphernalia. He was arraigned on Feb. 2 before District Judge William Kissner in Palmerton, who set bail at $150,000, 10 percent.
Stefanick was then taken to the Carbon County Correctional Facility. A preliminary hearing is scheduled before District Judge Casimir Kosciolek on Feb. 13.
