A look back: Feb. 12, 1958
Dr. Jesse N. Roeder, superintendent of the Palmerton school district, became the 11th person to receive the Palmerton Exchange Club’s Golden Deeds award, given annually to an outstanding person in the community.
Ernest Anewalt, a past president of the club, made the presentation to Dr. Roeder during the club’s annual banquet held in the parish hall of Holy Trinity Lutheran Church, Palmerton.
Dr. Roeder, in accepting the award, told the large crowd he was overwhelmed at being selected, saying he did not think he had done anything in his 37 years of teaching that he would not do if he had to live his life again.
Dr. Roeder has announced plans to retire from education at the end of the present school term.
