A look back: Feb. 13, 1953
Mary Probert, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Charles Probert of East Front Street, Lansford, was selected girl orator of the Lansford Junior High School during an elimination contest this morning in the school auditorium.
A seventh-grade pupil, her oration was titled “America, Upward and Onward.”
Second-place honors went to Dana Dee Tiley, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. William Tilley of East Patterson Street, while third place was won by Nancy Thomas, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. William Thomas of West Bertsch Street.
Other orators who participated were Dorothy Thomas, Christine Weis, Vivian Semko, Diane Erwin, Mary Jane Williams and Beverly Yurick.
