No applicants for NL school board seat
An open seat still remains up for grabs on Northern Lehigh School Board.
The school board on Monday agreed to readvertise for the open seat after no candidates emerged to fill the vacancy left by Kristie Wilk, who resigned last month. Wilk, who served as board secretary, resigned for work reasons.
Residents who live in the district now have until on or before 4 p.m. March 11 to submit a letter of application. The school board meets later that evening at 7 p.m.
Initially, the deadline to apply was on or before noon Feb. 7. There was one applicant for the open seat, according to Sharon Sherman, confidential secretary to the superintendent.
However, Sherman said the person was ineligible to serve. Since there were no other applicants at that time, the district chose to extend the deadline to Feb. 11, Sherman said.
No telephone applications will be accepted. Letters can be mailed or delivered in person.
Personal data or a resume should be included in the application.
The new director will serve until December, and then has the option to run in the municipal election.
Director Gale Husack is serving as board secretary.
Wilk, of Washington Township, was appointed to fill a vacancy on the board at a special meeting in April 2017.
That seat became open after former Director Edward Hartman resigned in March 2017.
Wilk’s resignation represented the latest turnover on the board.
In November, the board on a 7-0 vote appointed Director Michele Martineau to fill a vacant seat.
Martineau, of Slatington, was appointed to fill a vacant seat until December 2019.
To serve beyond then, she will need to run in the municipal election.
At that point, the seat will be only a two-year seat to complete the end of the term, which expires in 2021.
In October, the board approved the resignation of former Director David Roberts, who was moving out of the district.
Roberts was appointed to the school board in April. He took over for former Director Debra Bower, who resigned from the board in March due to health reasons.
Bower was appointed to the board in March 2016.
She replaced former Director Natalie Green, who resigned from her seat in February 2016.
Green was originally appointed to the board in June 2010.
