February 16, 1955 — Despite missing its leading scorer, Marian manages to pull away from Phillipsburg Catholic for a 68-45 victory. Ted Fritz drops in a game-high 24 points to make up for the absence of Tommy Eroh, who was sick. The Colts, coached by Hugh “Wink” Gallagher, outscore their opponent in every quarter, including a 19-11 edge in the second frame that gives the team a double-digit lead at the half. Bob Gruber collects 15 points for Marian, while Jay Gallagher finishes with 14. The Colts also receive eight points from Len Yurkovic.
