Former area athletes shine for Moravian at Landmark Indoor Championships

Palmerton graduate Jon Anthony captured a gold medal at the Landmark Conference Indoor Championships.

The Moravian College senior won the weight throw with a personal-best 15.58 meters (51-1.5). Anthony also placed eighth in the shot put at 12.23 meters (40-1.5).

A number of former area athletes also turned in strong showings for Moravian at the meet.

Hunter Gibson, a senior who graduated from Jim Thorpe, placed sixth in the weight throw with a PR of 14.05 meters (46-1.25), while another former Olympian — sophomore Derek Scott — took ninth in the weight throw at 12.39 meters (40-7.75).

Junior Gavin Kemery, a product of Northern Lehigh, turned in two PRs to gain a fourth place and a seventh. Kemery ran 15:53.57 in the 5,000 to earn fourth, while his 9:10.01 in the 3,000 allowed him to finish seventh.

In the 800, former Bulldog Aaron Hofmann captured seventh. Hofmann, a senior, crossed the line in 2:01.83. In the same event, Tamaqua graduate Brad Clemson placed 10th. The freshman was clocked in 2:05.54. Clemson was also a part of the distance medley relay team that took fourth.

In the women’s competition, Marian graduate Camaryn Wheeler was a part of two winning relays. The sophomore helped the Greyhounds claim the 4x400 in a time of 4:14.49 and was a part of the foursome that posted a winning time of 1:49.78 in the 4x200. Wheeler also captured individual honors, finishing fourth in the 200-meter dash in 27.97 seconds and seventh in the 60-meter dash preliminaries in 8.46 seconds.

A pair of Northwestern products also placed at the event. Sophomore Emily Renner set two new PRs in the 400, taking fourth place in a time of 1:02.93, and the 200, earning sixth in 28.20. Junior Vanessa Blose was sixth in the shot put with a PR toss of 10.22 meters (33-6.5).

The Moravian squads swept the team competition for the 10th time in 12 years. For the men, it was their 10th consecutive title.
