PHILADELPHIA (AP) — A woman sitting on the steps of a Philadelphia church was struck and seriously injured by a vehicle after a crash involving a car that was being pursued by police.

The crash occurred around 9 p.m. Thursday.

Authorities say city police were pursuing a car containing some robbery suspects when the fleeing car hit another vehicle. One of those vehicles then struck the woman, who was hospitalized with serious leg injuries.

The woman’s name and further details on her condition were not disclosed. No other injuries were reported in the accident.

Three people who were in the vehicle being pursued by police were captured, but the fourth remained at large Friday. Authorities say officers recovered cash that apparently was taken in the robbery, along with a weapon.

Fleeing by auto needs to be dealt with in a much, much more serious manner. Maybe cut off that right accelerator foot? Coming down on the police isn't the answer.
