Ross Twp. discusses relocating one-room schoolhouse
Ross Township supervisors continued the discussion of possibly relocating the one-room schoolhouse on Flyte Road to the township park at its meeting Monday evening.
Supervisors Tina Drake and David Shay are in favor of continuing their research and obtaining price quotes.
“I want to get an idea of a budget and if it is practical to try to move it,” Shay said.
He has contacted two companies in Lancaster that move buildings. He needs to provide them with more information to get a cost estimate.
At the February meeting, Secretary-Treasurer Doris Price and Bernie Kozen, executive director of West End Park and Open Space Commission, said they would work together on a Pennsylvania Department of Conservation and Natural Resources grant to move the schoolhouse. No grant money has been received yet.
“More people could access it here at the park,” Drake said.
Supervisor Howard A. Beers Jr. is opposed to moving the schoolhouse and any research involved.
Township resident Butch Kresge, who served as a supervisor for 24 years, asked the current supervisors, “Is this a popular idea liked by many or just one person’s idea?”
“It wasn’t my opinion. It was a question posed and we are looking into it,” Shay answered.
Kresge suggested a townshipwide poll to see if taxpayers favor the move.
“Its roof is an issue. It needs a new roof more than it needs to be moved,” Kresge said.
For now, Supervisors Shay and Drake will continue their research process. No motion to poll the residents was made during the meeting.

• Supervisors passed a motion to purchase and install two new security cameras for $790. This is to provide better security and additional camera angles to see people who enter the building.
• Supervisors received a proposal from Washburn Lawn Service but did not accept it yet. Instead, they want to obtain proposals from other lawn service companies and select one at the April meeting.
