Upcoming events at Hawk Mountain Sanctuary
Here is a list of some of the events coming up next month at Hawk Mountain Sanctuary in Kempton.
• Autumn Hawk Watch. Daily until Dec. 15, Hawk Mountain Sanctuary. Trail fee. Visit North Lookout and watch for autumn migrants.
• Fall weekend programs, Saturdays and Sundays. Free with trail fee. Multiple programs, such as M&T Bank's Raptors Up Close, Name That Raptor and more.
• Timber Rattlesnake Research at Hawk Mountain, 5:30 p.m. Saturday. Free. Presentation summarizing the results of nearly 40 years of research on the behavior, ecology and conservation of the species.
• Wee Ones Walk from 10 to 11:30 a.m. Wednesday. Free for Members, $5 nonmembers. Program designed for ages 3-5 with story, craft and walk.
• Star-Gazing on the Mountain, 6:45 to 9 p.m. Oct. 8, $10 for members, $20 nonmembers. Learn of the celestial celebrities of the evening and then journey outdoors to identify constellations and observe the planets and stars through a telescope.
• Weekend Programs held on Columbus Day, Oct. 10. Free with trail fee. Multiple programs, such as M&T Bank's Raptors Up Close, Name That Raptor, and more.
• Native Bees of Pennsylvania, 5:30 p.m. Oct. 15. Free. Dr. Anita Collins will discuss many of the 400+ native bee species of Pennsylvania, covering their beauty and biology, along with current conservation efforts.
• Swarovski Optics Day, 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Oct. 22. Free. Meet with a Swarovski optics specialist to test and learn about a variety of their products.
• Drawing from Raptors. 10 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. Oct. 29, $10 for members, $20 nonmembers; supplies provided for $15 fee. Dierdre Murphy will teach drawing from live American Kestrels or Screech Owls. No drawing experience is necessary.
• The Intersection of Art and Science, 5:30 p.m. Oct. 29, free. Dierdre Murphy will speak about her paintings and how her artist residency at Hawk Mountain has informed her studio practice.
