Prothonotary’s report

A total of 324 cases were started in February in the office of Carbon County Prothonotary Joann M. Behrens, according to a monthly statistical report released by the officeholder. A breakdown of the new cases is as follows:

Civil actions, 45; custody complaints, 23; complaints to modify custody, 11; district justice appeals, 5; divorce complaints, 20; equity action, 1; license appeals, 2; mortgage foreclosure complaints, 18; protection from abuse petitions, 15; quiet title action, 1; replevin complaint, 1; zoning appeals, 2; auditor/financial reports, 1; judgments, 156; miscellaneous case, 1; paternity suit 1; stipulation/waiver of liens, 1; and writs of executions, 20. The office staff also processed 82 passport applications and provided assistance to the public with 45 passport renewal applications.

Behrens’ financial report for February shows $32,393.36 was generated as follows: prothonotary’s fees, $25,239.92; interest income, $4.75; custody/divorce fees, $2,600; PFA Surcharge, Sheriff; $130; PFA Surcharge, Courts; $115; data processing fees, $3,720.34; stenographer fees, $583.35; and remote access fees, $1,200.

The prothonotary also remitted $5,520.54 to the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania, Department of Revenue, representing state fees collected locally, and $74.80 to the Administrative Offices of the Pennsylvania Courts, this being surcharges on new custody cases in accordance with Act 119 of 1996. Another $915 was deposited in the Prothonotary’s Automation Fund for future use in automating the office.
