Published March 12. 2019 12:59PM

One driver was seriously injured in a three-vehicle crash reported at 3:32 p.m. on Monday along Route 33 in Bushkill Township, in Northampton County.

State police at Belfast said Charles W. Bolash, 65, of Bethlehem, was driving a 2014 Kia Optima northbound when he rear-ended a 2016 Volkswagen Golf operated by Jeffrey M. Samala, 40, of South Abington Township, Lackawanna County.

After impact, Samala lost control of his vehicle which spun counterclockwise 360 degrees and slid from the left lane into the right shoulder and into an embankment, where it came to rest.

Bolash’s vehicle continued north off the left shoulder, through the grassy median and into the right southbound lane where it side-swiped a 2019 Chevrolet Spark driven by Margaret L. Newman, 44, of Wind Gap.

The impact caused the Spark to lose both its driver side tires. The Spark went onto the right shoulder and off the road striking an embankment where it came to rest.

The Optima lost its front driver side tire upon impact, continued north in the southbound lane, onto the right shoulder and striking an embankment, where it came to rest.

Bolash sustained serious injuries and was flown from the scene by a medical helicopter to Lehigh Valley Hospital, Cedar Crest.

Newman sustained a suspected minor injury and was taken by ambulance to St. Luke’s Hospital, Fountain Hill. Samala was not injured.

Bolash was cited for the crash.
