taxes are high already

Published March 16. 2019 06:54AM

In regards to Panther Valley School District seeking help in cutting expenses in the proposed budget for the 2019-20 school year, the school board wants to replace the parking lot at the Junior-Senior High School. I would like to know if the parking lot was ever seal coated to make it last longer?

I think now is the time to think about consolidating with the Weatherly School District. Both schools are small in size with low student enrollment. It is going to come to that someday, why not start now? Panther Valley could also eliminate busing in the district. It is not required by the state. Also, eliminate the wrestling program because it does not have enough wrestlers in all weight classes. I was on the wrestling team when I was in high school. We had enough wrestlers for all the weight classes and on the JV team.

We pay the highest real estate taxes in the county. Property owners in the district already pay high taxes. A lot of taxpayers in the district are on a fixed income and cannot afford another tax increase. Contact the Carbon commissioners to try to get more businesses to come into the Green Acres Industrial Park in Nesquehoning, even if it means to put up another building there. There is room for expansion at that location. There is only one large employer in the district. Just my thoughts.

Robert,
Your good common sense comes against the common interest of the many who find employment within the School Districts. Saving the taxpayers money is the least of their concern. Good try.

Not so fast Joe.
Pennsylvania's teachers unions rank fourth among all U.S. states in their strength and influence, according to a report released this week from the Fordham Institute. PA (PSEA) trails only Hawaii, Oregon and Montana.
Did you know PSEA recently increased dues on teachers and other school employees.
full-time public school teacher and PSEA member will pay well over $700 in combined dues to the PSEA and the National Education Association.
Do not, for one second, think the board has all the influence, when it comes to education.
The school boards merely accept recommendations. Ever go to a meeting?
All the statistics about unchecked union influence boil down to this: Kids' education gets hurt. Taxpayers get hurt. And even teachers get hurt, while the union bosses get fat.
If you're a teacher, and you still turn money over to the thugs, you no longer have to... Thanks to Trump.

Oh... Joe, do your homework for a change.
