Jeans needed

Valor needs men’s jeans. If anyone has new or gently used ones, no rips or tears, and would like to donate them, call 570-664-6468 or 570-369-3797.

Also needed are new socks and new underwear.

Gift card bingo

St. Matthew’s UCC CIA is holding a gift card bingo Sunday at the church in Kunkletown.

Doors open at noon. There is a participation charge. Bingo starts at 1 p.m. Food will be sold.

Sunday supper

A community supper will be held at Our Lady Queen of Peace Church from 3 to 4 p.m. Sunday.

Polk Supers

The Polk Township Board of Supervisors is scheduled to meet at 7 p.m. Monday in the municipal building on Polk Township Road.

Knit & Crochet

Zion Lutheran’s Knit & Crochet group will meet again at 1 p.m. to continue their service projects. Newcomers, whether seasoned or newbies, are welcome.

Republicans meet

The West End Republican Club meets regularly on the fourth Tuesday of each month at the Lakeside Restaurant, 5154 S. Hamilton Blvd., Saylorsburg. 
This month’s meeting will be at 7 p.m. Tuesday. Those wishing to eat before the meeting are asked to arrive by 6 p.m.

Deadline nears

The Monroe County Conservation District and members of the Stanley Becker family have announced that applications are now being accepted for the 12th annual Stanley Becker Memorial Scholarship. This $500 scholarship will be awarded to a graduating senior in Monroe County who is planning on attending college and majoring in an environmental field.

To apply, students may print an application or apply online at www.mcconservation.org. Deadline for applications is March 29.

Dinner postponed

St. Peter’s United Methodist Church, Saylorsburg, has announced that its spring roast beef dinner, scheduled for late April, will need to be postponed as the sanctuary and fellowship hall are renovated, refurbished remodeled. As soon as the work is completed, the church will announce a new dinner date so that old dinner friends can enjoy the meal again.

Volunteers needed

Retired Senior Volunteer Program is in need of volunteers to serve as escorts for wheelchair-bound residents so they can go on shopping trips or enjoy a meal outside of the residence. This is usually for Tuesday and Thursday mornings and afternoons. All transportation is provided and trips are in groups.

Volunteers also always needed for help with minor home repair teams, medical transportation, tutors and readers, and grocery shoppers or friendly visitors.

Woodcock watch

Monroe County Conservation District’s Kettle Creek Environmental Education Center has announced a woodcock watch taking place March 29.

Those interested are asked to join the Pocono Avian Research Center for this program at 6:30 p.m. at the center, where they will learn about the life, history and amazing courtship displays of this interesting little bird.

It begins with a brief presentation before traveling to the Tannersville Bog area to observe the woodcock’s lovesick antics. There is a cost, but for center members it is free.

Earth Day

The Monroe County Earth Day Event will be held from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. April 27 at the Monroe Campus of Northampton Community College in Tannersville. It is the fourth year for the event, which will be held there.

Organizations, agencies and businesses in Monroe County that maintain and promote conservation are invited to set up exhibits.

The 2019 Monroe County Earth Day Celebration is sponsored by the Monroe County Conservation District and the Monroe Campus of Northampton Community College in Tannersville. There is no fee for exhibiting, and all nonprofits are allowed to sell merchandise as long as funds generated are used to support the organization.

Healthy Kids Day

The Pocono Family YMCA wants Kids to Awaken Summer Imagination.

On April 27, the Pocono Family YMCA will be holding a free community event to inspire more kids to keep their minds and bodies active at the annual YMCA’s Healthy Kids Day.

From 1 to 4 p.m. there will be swimming, dancing, arts and crafts, face painting, games, healthy snacks and camping information.
